The Brant County Health Unit is confirming the area’s first COVID-19 related death is a female in her 60’s. In a release, they state the woman did have pre-existing medical conditions, but are not releasing any further specifics in order to protect privacy.
“I want to express my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of this individual. It’s a difficult time for everyone right now and losing a member of our community is deeply upsetting.”Dr. Elizabeth Urbantke, Acting Medical Officer of Health, BCHU
The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brantford and Brant County jumped to 29 Thursday, up from 17 the day before.
Dr. Urbantke also says, as the number of confirmed cases has risen over the past week, the concern and anxiety of residents is understandable, and now more than ever, we need to work together to slow the rate of infection.
The BCHU is reminding all residents who are not considered to be essential or critical services in the community to stay at home, avoid non-essential trips and keep two metres awar from others.
