Brant County to Keep Tax Hike Under Inflation Rate

Brant County residents are currently looking at a tax increase just under 2% next year. The county’s estimates committee is proposing the 2020 budget come in at just under $56.4 million.

Ward 2 Councillor, Marc Laferriere says that’s good news. “The tax increase for next year is looking like 1.99% or $58.36 per household for the year,” Laferriere says. “The Consumer Price Index inflation rate for next year is 2% – so we will be just under the rate of inflation again while enhancing services again this year.”

The budget originally proposed was sent back to staff to find more efficiencies when it appeared home owners would face an increase of 3.6% in 2020.

A final vote to accept the budget will be held by Brant County council on December 17th.
