BRANT.one Responds to Content Outage Due to Unexpected High Traffic

In addition to our regular followers, yesterdays thirsty news seekers overwhelmed our moderate content servers. About half of our users were met with an Internal Error when following links to our website and live channel mid-afternoon and into the evening.

A lot was happening in Brantford and area on Wednesday including the police shooting of a 48-year-old man in the area of Pearl Street and St. James Street. Social media exploded with the breaking news, including images of the police presence.

“Our external content delivery system saw a 900% increase in traffic over a very short period of time in the early afternoon. Although plans to migrate to a larger and more robust system were in the works, it was decided to make the immediate migration as our response to the unexpected traffic.”

All services were restored by the evening which now include Cloudflare’s content delivery network (CDN).

CDN is a system of distributed servers (network) that deliver pages and other web content to a user, based on the geographic locations of the user, the origin of the webpage and the content delivery server. CDNs also provide protection from large surges in traffic.
