BRANTFORD – A task force is being created to consider consolidating museums and historical archives in Brantford under one roof. The report will come back to the council early next year and layout options for area museums receiving funding from the municipality.
Recently, a consultant’s report stated all city museums are underfunded. The report also noted the Brant Museum and Archives and Myrtleville House, both operated by the Brant Historical Society, were on the brink of financial collapse.
President of the Brant Historical Society, Tim Philp, says he is not impressed with the consultant’s report. Philp says, while insulted by the report, he does support the idea of museums working together.
Philp says it costs approximately $150 thousand a year to operate the Brant Museum and Archives on Charlotte Street and $50 thousand of that is provided by the city.
