Deadly Day on Ontario Highways

OPP are reporting numerous traffic accidents across area highways in wake of Sunday’s messy weather system, some deadly.

A 24 year old St. Catherine’s woman is dead following a crash on the QEW. The two vehicle crash happened in the Fort Erie bound lanes of the highway at Jordan Road.

The woman was ejected from her vehicle after colliding with a transport truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway was closed until late afternoon as a result of the crash and investigation.

A multi-vehicle collision on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 east of Kingston also resulted in one death and many others are injured.

OPP say between 30 and 40 passenger vehicles and tractor trailers were involved in the crash that took place between Highway 15 and Montreal Street.

In the GTA alone, OPP report approximately 400 collisions occurred as drivers battled the extremely slippery conditions left by freezing rain and ice pellets.
