BRANTFORD – The Brant County Health Unit reported no new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Monday, leaving nine currently active cases. The total number of confirmed cases remains unchanged at 136, with no hospitalizations. There have been 123 recoveries and four deaths to date.
There are eighteen active cases in Haldimand Norfolk. That area’s health unit reported no new cases of COVID-19 Monday, leaving the total number of positive test results at 446. Thirty-two people have died from COVID-19 in Haldimand and Norfolk.
Ontario is reporting fewer than 150 new cases of COVID-19 for the first time since late last week, marking a return to the somewhat lower levels of infection it had seen before a recent uptick. The Ministry of Health on Monday recorded 135 new cases of the virus and one additional death. There are now 1,474 active cases province-wide.
Nearly half of the new cases are in Toronto or the Peel Region. Most of the GTA will be allowed to move forward to Stage 3 of the province’s reopening plan at the end of this week. However, Toronto, Peel Region, and Windsor-Essex will be left behind for the time being. Premier Doug Ford announced Durham, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand-Norfolk, Lambton, and York regions would all be permitted to begin Stage 3 this Friday.
