Suspected Overdose Death Investigation leads to Confiscation of Firearms

Several firearm charges have been laid against two Brantford residents following an investigation at a home on Alice Street.

Police have seized two rifles (one modified), two shotguns, stock and two barrels, 725 various rounds of ammunition, five magazine cartridges as well as a quantity of suspected methamphetamine with a street value estimated at $1000.

A 24 year old Brantford man and a 19 year old Branford woman have been charged with improper storage of the firearms as well as unauthorized possession.

The firearms were noticed by police when they assisted EMS responding to a medical distress call at the home last Saturday, November 2nd. A man was suffering from a possible drug overdose. Police say, a number of firearms along with ammunition were visibly seen inside the residence, were not stored properly and readily accessible.

The 47 year old man in medical distress was taken to hospital in critical condition and later passed away. The investigation into the death at the residence is ongoing and now being handled through the coroner’s office.
