The County of Brant continues to celebrate Pride Month this year on a smaller scale than in the past due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A small group of officials took part in a virtual Pride flag-raising ceremony outside the council chambers in Paris. 2020 is the second consecutive year the County of Brant has participated in Pride events.
Brant County Mayor David Bailey marked the event expressing his pride in the community. Bailey says he has full confidence the county will continue to make decisions to be inclusive, fair, and to move forward regardless of the past.
“If there are by-laws to be changed, let’s change them. If there are people to apologize to, let’s apologize. And if there are neighbors to get closer to, let’s get close.”Mayor David Bailey
Brant County has other virtual activities and resources available to celebrate Pride Month available through their social media pages and website.
The city of Brantford will also mark Pride Month with a virtual flag-raising ceremony on Monday, June 15th at 11 AM outside Brantford City Hall.
The month of June was initially chosen for Pride recognition globally to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred in June 1969. Events are held to highlight the LGBTQ community around the world.
