SIU Investigating Brantford Police Shooting

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting of a 48 year old Brantford man by police. The SIU says Brantford Police were dispatched this morning to a residence on Ava Road regarding a man in distress. When officers arrived, the man drove away and officers followed him to Brantford’s Polish Hall.

“The neighbor who lives behind me on Pearl Street had called me and said that she had heard 3 or 4 gunshots”

The man exited the vehicle and an interaction took place during which 2 officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck multiple times. He was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries and is in critical condition.

The SIU has six investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to this incident.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
