BRANTFORD – The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 21-year-old man died following a crash early Saturday.
The single-vehicle collision occurred in the area of Brant Avenue and Ava Road when a vehicle seen earlier that morning speeding in the downtown area by police crashed and became engulfed in flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Around 3 AM Saturday, two vehicles were speeding in the area of Dalhousie and Clarence Streets and noticed by a Brantford Police officer who attempted to stop them. One vehicle was stopped.
The other vehicle fled but was seen by an OPP officer in the area of Dalhousie Street and Brant Avenue, who lost sight of it. It was then discovered further on Brant Avenue by Brantford police.
Three SIU investigators, two forensic investigators, and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case. One Brantford Police officer is the subject of the investigation. The SIU also says, there are one OPP witness and five Brantford Police witnesses working with the investigation.
