SPCA Moving Forward with Plans for New Home

BRANTFORD – The Brant County SPCA is moving ahead with steps to build a new home following the recent gift of land from the city for a new animal shelter.

Officials are now engaging with the architect, up-dating costing, and working towards requests for proposals to build the new facility on Kraemers Way and hope to get shovels in the ground in 2021.

Last week Brantford City Council agreed to sell the city-owned land to the SPCA for one dollar. The original sale price was $250 thousand.

Executive Director, Robyn Kuchma, says when she joined the SPCA 20 years ago, it was always her vision to bring a new facility to the community, and now they are one step closer thanks to the city and the gift of land.

Kuchma says the current outdated Mohawk Street shelter is 25 hundred square feet. The new facility, located in the Northwest industrial area new the Hampton Inn, is slated to be between 12-13 thousand square feet.

The Brant County SPCA is hoping to raise $7 million needed for the construction of the new facility.
